Rep. Phil Gingrey wants to see classes focused on traditional gender roles taught to elementary-aged students.

“You know, maybe part of the problem is we need to go back into the schools at a very early age, maybe at the grade school level, and have a class for the young girls and have a class for the young boys and say, you know, this is what’s important,” Gingrey said.

Exactly, what is important?

“This is what a father does that is maybe a little different, maybe a little bit better than the talents that a mom has in a certain area. And the same thing for the young girls, that, you know, this is what a mom does, and this is what is important from the standpoint of that union which we call marriage,” he said.

Of course the father does a better job than the mother. That’s what’s important for little kids to know. Duh.

This is exactly what is wrong with many parts of American society today. These restricting gender roles need to go, not be reinforced and drilled into the youth of today. Gingrey thinks that these traditional gender roles are the way to restoring the better days of yesteryear because he has never been subjected to the problems that arise from them. He also probably has no clue that there are millions of single parents in this world who do an amazing job at raising their kids. Either being a single father or a single mother, these parents are defying gender roles by playing both roles.

And, in regards to DOMA; half of marriages in the United States end in divorce. Marriage doesn’t really seem to hold the same sanctity that it used to, so I’m not really sure exactly what you’re defending.
