Bryn Mawr College hosted a keynote address at the second annual summer institute offered by the Women in Public Service Project where former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told women they need to step up if they want to see change.
Not only do there need to be more women in higher up positions, there need to be more women in government, period. “Just having a woman as head of government may or may not change what happens below that woman,” Clinton said.
She honed in on the fact that women need to stand up and be heard. We need to not only move up in the world but to use the positions that we already occupy to make a difference. Clinton remarked, “We need more leaders who stand against corruption. We need more leaders who say ‘no’ to business as usual.”
Essentially, we need change. We need less discrimination against women in the workplace and in government. We need more strong women with leadership skills in the workplace and in government. We need less stereotypes that degrade women into irrational screeching harpies. We need a lot of things, and they aren’t going to come fast.
