The Boston Marathon; Boys Club – Until Kathrine Switzer Came Along

For 70 years, the Boston Marathon was a race only ran by men.

In 1967, Kathrine Switzer filled out her application to run, and signed it with her initials thereby avoiding being told she couldn’t run by race officials.

During the race one of the dudes running the show essentially attacked her in attempts to tear off her numbers and told her to “get the hell out” of his race.

The amount of rage you can see in his face is astonishing, not to mention disgusting.

It wasn’t until five years later that women were officially allowed to run in the marathon.

I’m not a huge sports fan, but this is literally a turning point in women’s history and the fight for women’s rights that too many people don’t know about.

This video by Makers:Women Who Make America says it all.
