Ken Bencomo was an English teacher at St. Lucy’s Priory High School in Glendora, California, a Los Angeles suburb.
After marrying his partner, the school fired Bencomo, stating that their reason behind the termination was the fact that he made his wedding into a spectacle.
Everyone knows that the Roman Catholic Church does not approve of gay marriage, despite recent statements coming from the Pope. Reportedly, the school knew that Bencomo is gay, so essentially, they fired him for announcing that he’s gay.
In the time since, students have garnered support for the teacher, pulling in 58,000 signatures on a Change.org petition to bring him back to the district.
Unfortunately, knowing the way in which the church works, Bencomo will more than likely not get his job back, and even if he did, the amount of harassment coming from the church would more than likely be unbearable.
