Yes, there is a rom-com that is supposed to be released this week (however IMDB attributes it to 2012) with the title Jewtopia.
The cringe-worthy title supposedly belongs to a “hilarious” movie, according to reviews, that uses numerous stereotypes around gender and religion as its base material.
The basic plot revolves around two men, one Jewish one Gentile. The Jewish man wants to date non-Jewish women because he’s sick of dating women who tell him what to do (stereotype number 1). The Gentile man (whose name is – can you guess??- Christian!) wants to date Jewish women because he thinks his life will be easier if he has a woman making all of his decisions for them.
When I read the title I cringed. When I got ten seconds into the movie trailer, I cringed. Maybe I’m being too sensitive, but an entire comedy based around power-hungry, controlling Jewish women just doesn’t sit right with me.
