Two Mormon parents used to be the kind of people you would slam a door in the face of. They used to go door to door, preaching about how gays are spawn of the devil…or some such nonsense.
That was until these two, Wendy and Tom Montgomery, found out by reading their sons journal that he’s gay. After such a finding, and a six month religious journey, they were able to find a way to follow their religious beliefs while also accepting their sons sexual orientation.
After enduring the ridicule and torment from friends and fellow church members – which included being told that their son should be taken away and given to people who follow the teachings of the prophet – that eventually caused this family to switch congregations, they now lead a growing movement that teaches that homosexuality isn’t a sin.
All of this is in time for National Coming Out Day, which is October 11 in the United States. Obviously this is a day for gays and lesbians to come out to their friends and family, but it’s also a day for allies to make it known that they support the growing gay rights movement.
