In a measure that blatantly mixes church and state, Pennsylvania Republicans are pushing to have the words “In God We Trust” displayed in all public school across the state.
Republican Rep. Rick Saccone’s response to those who disagree with the bill is; You don’t like it? Don’t look at it. Saccone sponsored the bill, titled the National Motto Display Act and claims that the motto is closely tied to PA history, since rumor has it that former Gov. James Pollack is responsible for putting the phrase on coins while serving as the director of the US Mint 150 years ago.
Janice Rael, vice president of the Delaware Valley chapter of Americans United for Separation of Church and State knows what’s up, “The last time I checked, God was religious,” she said.
The bill passed the House Education Committee last week in a 14-to-9 vote, and it is unclear whether it will be brought for a full House vote.
