First Julianne Hough donned blackface then claimed ignorance to justify her actions, then the now infamous Trayvon Martin/George Zimmerman costumes surfaced on Facebook and Instagram, then there was the costumes mocking the Asiana Airlines crash that killed three girls and injured 100 others.

Now, to top off the Halloween season a Virginia mother is defending her son wearing a KKK costume because racism is a family tradition.

Jessica Black has said that the costume that her son, Jackson, wore was also something worn by her brother when he was in Kindergarten and again when he was 13. She also said, “It’s supposed to be white with white, black with black, man with woman and all of that. That’s what the KKK stands for,” according to HuffPo.

The resurgence of racist Halloween costumes is unfortunately not surprising, but instead a clearer and more publicized illustration of race relations in America today.
