Actress and overall awesome person Evan Rachel Wood, denounced watching the Olympics as they stream live on television. She says by doing so it’s supporting the network and the sponsors, who are knowingly supporting the games while they are in a country that is currently at war with its LGBT community. Instead, she suggested watching the games online after they take place.
She’s totally right.
Here’s how it all went down on Twitter, Thursday night.
I know its hard to watch, but its important we DO NOT TURN AWAY because this is REAL and happening now. http://t.co/SqIkG6AmYa

The last video I posted is why I am not watching the Olympics. I am sorry the athletes have been dragged into this, it isn’t their fault… — Evan Rachel Wood (@evanrachelwood) February 7, 2014
…but I just can’t bring myself to support it. If you choose to watch, thats fine, its your choice. But watch the video I posted also… — Evan Rachel Wood (@evanrachelwood) February 7, 2014
…so you understand the weight of your decision. — Evan Rachel Wood (@evanrachelwood) February 7, 2014
Almost immediately, Wood had to defend her statement to many who said that by not watching the Olympics live you are not supporting the athletes who worked so hard to get there. Wood retweeted a few responses which sum everything up quite nicely.

@evanrachelwood I feel for the LGBT Olympians who have worked their asses off their whole lives and have to compete in an unwelcoming place
