Barack Obama Wants to Make it Easier for Kids to go to College

President Barack Obama proposed two years of community college free for kids who work hard in high school and show that they are invested in their education.
Obama also noted that the program is not just for high school students, but for people who are looking to go back to school and train for a new career.
At first look, without talking about the massive expense it will incur, this plan seems like a good thing. However, history has shown that the more people who get an education, the more education is needed to get a decent job. Years ago all that was needed for a mid-level position was a high school diploma. Now, it’s a college degree, and if you want to be really successful you may as well go straight to grad school because no one will look at your application if you have anything less than a masters.
As White House Domestic Policy Director Cecilia Munoz said, “This is a moment that is equivalent to the moment when we made high school universal.”
That’s not to say that not everyone deserves an education, it’s just to say that the changing education landscape will only make it harder for people to find well-paying jobs going forward.
