Mercy Academy in Kentucky is sending out the best message to its prospective all-female student body; they’re not princesses.

This is important for so many reasons. Too often girls are not taught how to survive on their own because of the traditional standard that they will find a man to do everything and provide for them. (This lack of self-reliance has actually crossed over to include both genders, but that will be for another post.)

Mercy Academy tells its students to prepare for real life, and that they will do that through providing training in critical thinking through a performance task-based curriculum.

In a time when the economy sucks and Mom and Dad can’t afford to help you forever, we couldn’t think of a better way to prepare them for the real world.
